Originally done in 1977 in Sumi ink, this image was part of the famed Tokyo '77 series. John's purpose was to spend some time in Japan and learn the language and ways for him and his son, Sean. Out of this trip came some of the finest ink drawings ever done that were signed and dated by John. The rest of the Tokyo series is sold out. What makes this piece unique is the fact that it is the first ever produced on handmade Japanese matboard. The border is gold and the image itself is slightly flecked in silver, making it quite extraordinary. |
